Fire TV Stick has no picture: check HDMI, power, and signal
On this page
“No Signal” is different from a black screen during a movie
You turn on the TV and either see no Fire TV menu at all or get a black screen only when you start a movie. Separate these two situations. If the home screen never appears, start by checking the connection and power. If the menu is visible, you can narrow the problem to a later step.
If needed, take a photo of the message. “No Signal,” a frozen logo, and a black video area are different observations that can help with troubleshooting.
First simplify the path from the Stick to the screen
Check which TV input is selected and which HDMI port the Stick is actually plugged into. If a receiver, soundbar, or switch sits between the Stick and TV, try connecting the Stick directly. Amazon also lists restarting, reconnecting the HDMI connection, and using the designated accessories as steps for a blank screen. Q1
Change one thing at a time and check whether the home screen appears. If you change the input, cable, and app all at once, you will not know which change helped.
What the result tells you
| What you see | A useful next step |
|---|---|
| The TV’s regular menu is not visible either | Check the TV and its controls first |
| The TV menu is visible, but Fire TV does not appear | Check the HDMI input, power, and direct connection |
| The Fire TV menu is visible, but one app stays black | Compare the affected app, sign-in, and specific title |
| The picture briefly drops only during a transition | Note how long it lasts and whether it recurs before assuming a defect |
Amazon notes that the screen may briefly go black when starting or stopping 4K content. A short transition should therefore be assessed differently from a picture that stays missing. Q1
If you have sound but no picture
Note whether the sound comes from the affected app or another TV source. Then test the Fire TV menu and a second known title. These are comparisons to help narrow things down, not a guarantee of a particular cause. Sound alone does not prove that every part of video playback is working correctly.
Before doing a factory reset, check the help for your specific model. A reset may require you to set up the device again and will not fix a wrongly selected HDMI input.
Details that can help support
Write down the device model, TV model, whether the Stick is connected directly, the exact message, and the steps you have already tried. Include when the problem began. Do not share passwords or full account details.
If the picture is back but the remote is not working, continue with pairing the remote. If playback stutters, see IPTV buffering.
